IIIT Kottayam was founded in 2015. In 2017, IIITK was declared as an Institute of National Importance by IIIT PPP Bill 2017. The IIIT Kottayam's permanent campus is located at Valavoor, Pala, Kottayam district, Kerala. The work for development of the permanent campus is entrusted to CPWD, GoI. The campus is designed to be environment friendly and green with the provision for solar and wind energy.
The students have started several clubs and are learning a lot of skills. All the students actively participate in the Technical and cultural activities. Dhruva-annual Tech fest, Pradhva-annual sports meet, Enlace-cultural fest are some of the events in which the students are deeply involved and developing their skills.

IIIT Kottayam organized the International Conference on Innovative Trends in Information Technology (ICITIIT-20) in the presence of the Director, Registrar, Dean Academics and internationally reputed professors of IIIT Kottayam, along with a number of accomplished professors from Indian and International Universities. It was organized in the recently inaugurated Conference Hall, with world-class technology. A number of brilliant papers were presented in front of the aforementioned and the students, with topics ranging from Cryptography and IOT to Data Science and Cloud Technologies.
EBSB - Ek Bharat ShreshthaBharat
Under the banner of EBSB and the cultural club, students of IIIT Kottayam organized a number of plays with each representing certain cultures of India. Unity in Diversity was the main theme of this event; hence students were chosen randomly to represent different states and their traditions, ensuring zero bias. Traditional dances were performed, folk tales were enacted and historic characters were brought back to life on stage. And with all of this being live streamed over multiple social media platforms, awareness towards our diverse cultures was spread among people.
